Watching Fox News last night like all evil neo-con kool-aid drinkers are wont to do, I found my faith in the Republican VP nominee sorely shaken.
Greta Van Susteren had a few guests on including the indomitable Gloria Allred. Gloria repeatedly pointed out that if Palin had been conducting government business by personal email in order to avoid detection of wrongdoing she was in deep trouble.
Now, as Greta was quick to assert - over and over again - no such email has been unearthed. This inconvenient fact didn't slow Gloria down one bit, and as a Palin supporter I admit, I found little comfort in the knowledge that no incriminating emails had come to light. In fact, I tossed and turned all night wondering what else might Palin be hiding that we simply haven't found yet?
What if somewhere in her personal emails we discover that she has been witholding information on the location of Jimmy Hoffa's body? What if there is a quick note to her hubby referencing her complicity in bringing down the Twin Towers? Who knows whether we might next be treated to a revelation of her impending sex-change operation? Well okay, that might endear her to a select few of the Democrats' core constituents.
This is nuts. Why on earth is air time being wasted on what may (but is not) in Palin's email? The truth is, sadly for Democrats, the deeper they dig, the more Sarah Palin proves to be exactly as advertised: A reform-minded tough cookie who has won the hearts of much of the conservative base John McCain so desperately needed. When we are having days of breaking news dedicated to the earth-shattering discovery that she may have offered a lateral move to an insubordinate employee who served at her pleasure, motivated by the *gasp* personal animus she could have felt when he defended a drunken, abusive rogue cop who used to be married to her sister, well...all I can say is, "Keep on grasping mainstream media, but the straw pile is starting to look mighty thin."
